Exotic Music for the Oud

A pleasant disc of Middle Eastern and Indian musics. There are also a few European traditional pieces that end up sounding a bit like bluegrass because of their twanginess. This record is not really all on the oud; the bandleader H. Aram Gulezyan also plays the sultania and the sarod. Each of these are described on the reverse.

Papua Niugini: The Middle Sepik

This is a disc demonstrating the instruments played in this specific region of Papua New Guinea by the four ethnic groups that reside there: the Sawos, Iatmul, Manumbu, and Chambri Lake people. The majority of the tracks are one or two players, and the arrangements are mostly very simple, focusing on a dissonance or rhythm. The volume is a bit low because there are twenty-two tracks.
